A new Doctor (ooh!) & Jazz with Peter

Well dear reader, Tuesday marked my final day of term (for now at least), talking about my dissertation (oh the joys!). Meaning that the rest of the week could be spent winding down and enjoying a long summer holiday.

We (Jess and I) began by visiting the cinema to see ‘The House’ on Wednesday, a comedy about two parents who can’t afford to send their daughter to university so open an illegal casino. Whilst it looked rather funny and featured Will Ferrell, we both found it rather disappointing as the trailer contained all the funny moments sadly, but it got us out of the house none the less. Thankfully Thursday was more successful as we visited the International Swimming pool again and enjoyed access to both pools this time. The rest of the week was spent enjoying the freedom of no college and the sun.

Saturday as ever was a wander to London to stay with Peter for the weekend, whilst Jess went home. As ever I met Peter for lunch and spent Saturday catching-up. Sunday was a busy day as it marked Peter’s first gig since 2015. Before that however was the announcement of the new Doctor. Now this was supposed to be at 6.30pm (which I would have missed), but the tennis was quick so was announced before thankfully. I’d never realized just how long tennis goes on for before (no clue who won I should add), but the new Doctor is to be Jodie Whittaker, who I think will be brilliant. I didn’t think the production team would be prepared to cast a woman in the part but I think they were right to. Jodie has already had quite a career and I think will make a brilliant Doctor, bringing new life to the series (which I think it needs) and I can't wait to see she Jodie and the production team do with the show. Now begins the challenge of meeting her!

Anyway back to the Jazz and we got there early and sorted everything, only to find that the gig has been wrongly advertised on the website so had to delay it until the website time (not the end of the world, but annoying). Peter was on fine form as was his delightful band and they all put on quite a show, despite the heat. Quite by chance I spent the evening in the delightful company of Robert Dick and Matthew Waterhouse (who I never knew was a Jazz lover) which made it all the more enjoyable. Every time that I stay with Peter I think I think I should see more live jazz. After a busy and enjoyable evening, we headed back to Peter’s. By chance as we went to the gig I bumped into Chris Porter (remember him from Kenneth Allbran and Fantom dear reader) and had an unexpected catch-up which was lovely.
