A weekend up north (the first in a long time)
As seems to have been the case for this blog since day one,
I am a little behind but then I expect you are used to that by now. Anyway, I
ventured up north this weekend for the first time in quite a few months.
Having driven up on Friday, Saturday was, for a change, a
rather relaxed day amongst other things cleaning the car (see what I mean, a
very quiet day). Having talked about it for a good few months we went up to the
Exchange to see 'Death of a Salesman' which was brilliant. Having not been to
the Exchange for quite some time it was so nice to go back. The play really was
brilliant! Whilst I know it's not a new play by any means, it was for me. As
ever Don Warrington was such a powerful presence on stage, as part of a cast
that was a joy to watch in a very minimalist, but effectively designed show.
I'm not sure that it is on for much longer otherwise I would say to go and see
it. As ever after the show we stage doored and had a lovely chat with both Don
Warrington and Maureen Beattie (I really must find a new adjective for these
see stage door meetings).

Sunday was a little busier, but still relaxed as I headed
down to Telford, via Shrewsbury (I'll explain later). I met up for a friend,
Ralph Wilton (he worked at the BBC for many years as a production manager) to
join him, and a couple of his friends for lunch in a charming little pub. We
all agreed we must go back and explore Shrewsbury it really is rather pretty.
The rest of the day was spent catching up with Ralph at their beautiful B&B
before we headed across to George's party. George's (George Little who I'm sure
I must have mentioned before) party was rather the root of my trip up north as
his wife, Jane, organised a party for his 90th. It was a lovely and
very happy party, full of singing thanks for two very good old-time music hall
entertainers and loved by all. Most of those invited had been a secret to
George, but I think he was really touch that so many were there. As ever, after
a busy but very relaxing weekend I headed back to Cardiff for another week of
things I can't talk about (I'll have forgotten it all by the time I can talk
about it!).
