The Vic and the Theatre Space
So dear
reader what have I been up to this last week I hear you ask, well with only a
few weeks to go before I move to Cardiff I have been busy at both the New Vic
theatre and The Theatre Space on two shows.
Last Monday was spent in Winsford at The Theatre Space building the set along with the Director, Richard Oliver and one of the cast, James Frances. As ever working with a small budget has its restrictions, however the range of levels and flats that the space has means that I am always surprised as to just how effective a set we are able to build, with it always looking different form the last play. It was a fun day, not only spent sorting out the set and lights, but also catching up with Rich and James, after having been away for a bit.

Following my day in Winsford I have been
working at the New Vic in Newcastle-under-Lyme on ‘Eric in Benidorm’ (or as we
call it DGM) as a followspot operator. DGM is always a fun show to work on as
the show its self is very much a ‘feel-good’ night and the cast and are always
very friendly. This year we had one or two from the Christmas show, but it was mainly
a new cast. Having spent Tuesday day listening to the track list on loop I had some
idea of the songs this time which helped! Unlike Christmas I ended up with a
small walk on part as a holiday maker, requiring a Hawaiian outfit, which I
think I can safely say will not be worn again! As ever I brushed up on mu card
skills, as we played endless games of Shed, Whist, Trump and Hearts, although I’m
not totally convinced I remembered all the rules as I kept losing! My week on
DGM flew by and I was sad to leave on Saturday.
Sunday was back to ‘The Waiting Room’ so I
can’t complain as it was nice to be back in the space after a week away.
Following a day of tec rehearsals I think we’re almost there and ready to open
this week.
‘The Waiting Room’, is about ‘six passengers are delayed and stranded at a remote train station waiting room, looking for a connection home. Are you accountable for the decisions you make in life? The waiting room will decide.’ It’s been an interesting play to work on, as we have a different cast than I’ve previously worked with in the space and it’s been interesting watching them develop their characters and how they work together. We are performing 10th, 11th and 12th September 2015. 7:30pm. Tickets £8 http://www.thetheatrespace.com/the-waiting-room/4589185068 (shameless plug, but look we have trailer and see it if you’re in the area!

It's a great trailer, wish I could have seen the play but I'm down in Surrey (t'other side of London) with lots going on at the mo (not all of it great, sadly). One day...
ReplyDeleteRich spends a lot of time making the trailers, he always does a great job! Indeed, may be one day
