Wanders by the river
Following on from that week’s relaxing weekend I drove this weekend
(that felt better), but was none the less relaxing.
Although it was something of a drive to get there (not too
bad and well worth it). Having not seen Jenny and Steve (Peter Mile’s niece) for
almost a year, at long last we found a weekend when were both free (quite something).
We arrived and headed out to Hampton Court as it is not far from them. Of
course, I’ve heard of it, I’ve read about it, but never really thought to visit
it. It was a beautiful day for it, plenty of Sun and dry. As well as the house
and grounds being there, this weekend was a food festival so we explored all
the tents and enjoyed what they had on offer, before me made it inside (that
took a good few hours on its own). We spent the rest of the day exploring the
house which is utterly fascinating (well worth a trip), but only managed to
explore half of it so I think we will be going back at some point for sure. We
left as the house closed with plenty more to do. After a very enjoyable day in
the sun, the evening was spent with a few beers, in the back garden looking out
over the river nattering away and catching up on everything.
Sunday was similarly relaxing and just as sunny for a
change. Before we headed back to Wales, Jenny and Steve took us on a beautiful walk
along the estuary of the Thames, past house boats and pubs; a very idyllic way
of life. After a quick pint (of orange juice), it was time to head back to
Wales feeling more relaxed than I think either of us have in a long time.
