Lectures & LGBTQ Who

Well dear reader(s – I’m optimistic), first week of lectures is already over (I’m both pleased and concerned, as I’ve already got loads to do!). As I expected, within my first week of lectures I have already been set a number of length projects (oh the joys) to keep me busy for the next six weeks. I’m pleased to say that so far, all seem to be progressing (or at least I’ve thought about them) well, how long that continues remains to be seen.

Friday night was a wander down to the bay to the Glee club (no nothing to do with the TV series). I’d wanted to go for a long time, but as part of the ticket for Saturday’s event (read ahead and then come back to this) I got discounted entry as one of Saturday’s guests, Bethany Black, was performing at the club that night. Now you may remember dear reader that Dad and I went to see her in Stoke, last year and so I was very keen to see here again. She didn’t disappoint, she as hilarious (as were the four other comedians I should say)! I hadn’t realised, but they did what looked like rather good Pizzas (is this a theme for comedy clubs?) so I shall no doubt be having one of those next time I go.

Two Who legends!
Saturday was yet another (this time planned) wander, but not out of Wales, instead to the National History Museum of Wales for ‘Who’s Queer Now’, an LGBTQ event focusing on Doctor Who and its impact on both Cardiff and the LGBTQ community. The day consisted of a number of fascinating panels about the fore-mentioned subject, from a rather brilliant selection of guests, including Russel (the) T. Davies, Warris Hussein, Phil Collinson, Barnaby Edwards, Nicholas Pegg, Bethany Black and Edward Russell. It was fascinating to hear from all of them about their LGBTQ related thoughts about Who, having heard all of them talk about working on Who, but not within the mentioned context. Throughout the day I was able to have a chat with most of the guests and a great catch-up with friends.

Sunday was less eventual (as always seems to be the case) as I did the work that I should have done on Saturday (oh and the washing!)
