Bristol, and a little more Bristol
I think the title sums up my weekend really. As usual I
can't talk about my week, although life is plodding along nicely.
With Kitty busy in college on Saturday I was a man in a van
for the day, helping Martin and Gary move bits and pieces from Cardiff to
Bristol and back. It was actually rather fun, the three of us mucking around in
the van, particularly as we recorded this week's radio show in the van on the
drive back (I have no idea how that came out). Whilst it was busy, we did have
chance to stop for lunch down the road from theirs which was very relaxed,
enjoying a meal in the Sun (I felt like I was on holiday!).
Having been back and forth for the day you may have thought
dear reader that I'd seen enough of Bristol. In fact, I went back on Sunday,
this time with Kitty. As it is Kitty's birthday on Monday, Sunday was her
birthday day as it were. We began at the Aquarium having a good potter around
and I was surprised just how big it was. They have turtles there which are her
favourite animal, so that went down well. From there we dashed across Bristol
for lunch with Martin and Gary (the first time Kitty had met them), but all
seemed to go well and again it felt like I was on holiday (does a day trip to
Bristol count?). With Martin and Gary trying to make their house habitable
after all the furniture we abandoned on them, Kitty and I left them to it. We
wandered into Bristol (again) and went for a drink at the Old Vic, only to bump
into my friend Andrew who works there. He very kindly offered to take us around
and gave us an incredible tour, particularly as he is their longest serving member
of staff, having been there for 35 years. I think for both of us we were rather
taken aback by it all. We were also in good company as Ian McKellan is the only
other person to have been given that tour (see what I mean, we were lucky!).
After our fantastic tour we headed back to Cardiff having had a very busy day
in Bristol.
