A weekend of two halves
Whilst my weekends are often busy and a little all-over the
place, this week was definitely a weekend of two halves. I continue to be busy
during the week working in the studio clearing up, which really does seem to be
flying by.
I was London bound on Saturday, in particular South Kensington,
an area I don’t really know. I was to meet with the legendary Vernon Dobtcheff to
interview for Martin’s (Bristol Martin) radio show having initially asked him
late last year. Anyway, the promised short interview became a delightful day
spent with him, enjoying a coffee, then lunch, then cake even before any form
of interview was done. Vernon seems to have worked with or know everyone so
there wasn’t a name I couldn’t mention or a programme without an anecdote, I
just hope it makes for interesting listening when Martin puts it out at some
point (at the very least I had a lovely day). Had Vernon not needed to be elsewhere
that evening I’m sure we would have chatted all day. As it was, Vernon had to
be elsewhere so for a change I was back to Cardiff for a reasonable time and
still had an evening to do with as I wished which was a welcome surprise.
The second half of my weekend was in Dorset, visiting Frank.
Due to roadworks I ended up taking a more scenic route to get to him, but it
was nice none the less to see a different part of the south west. As has become the norm for my visits, we had
a lovely lunch in Frank’s local pub, before heading back to his cottage for a
catch-up and to watch ‘The Lady Vanishes’. Trips down to Dorset are always very
sedate and enjoyable.
