Week two of uni and a return ‘up north’
Week two back in Cardiff feels like it has
been just as busy as the week (just not quite so exciting to read about I
assume, so I’ll keep it brief). The focus of the week has been yet more
projects, as I continue to juggle my project about the BBC, produce an
imaginary tour pack (I’m a fountain of knowledge about Oslo as a result), a
sound project and a lecture demo (I’m not thinking about that one yet). So the
combination of all those is keeping me very busy.
Monday evening was the highlight of my
weekdays, as I spent the evening listening to a talk by Julie Gardner (please
say I don’t have to explain who she is dear reader). The event was at Cardiff
Uni but it was open to all (despite that, I still felt like I’d snuck in). It
was fascinating to hear from her about how she started in the industry, her
advice for people going into the industry and her memories of working on
various shows, as well as setting up her new production company ‘Bad Wolf
Productions’.
However, despite it being a very busy week
at uni (for once) I still wandered off at the weekend, but this time on a
Friday, for which I ventured home (up north). Saturday was spent working on projects,
but that evening Dad and I went to the Exchange to see a play in the studio space
called ‘Wish List’. Having not been to the studio since I was about 10, I can’t
say I really knew what to expect, but it’s a fairly large, versatile space.
From what I’d red of the play I was expecting it to be solely a comment about
large companies and how they ‘use’ their workforce, in particular Amazon. However,
whilst it did touch upon that, it looked at the situations in which people
ended up in such jobs and the types of lives they live which was fascinating. I
thoroughly enjoyed it and would very much encourage you to go and see it dear
reader. It is on in the Exchange for another few weeks, before transferring
down to the Royal Court (it a collaboration by the way) for a month or so; well
worth the effort trust me. As it was only a studio show, we emerged into the
interval of Street Car (remember that was a few weeks ago) and amongst the
crowd spotted Russell T Davies (it a small world), but we rushed outside to meet
an actor from ‘Wish List’, Aleksandar Mikic (yes dear reader, he’s done who).
He was more than happy to stop and chat, about the show and Who which was nice.
Sunday was another busy day and was actually
the entire reason as to why I had returned north. Dad and I went to Stoke CON
Trent to meet Terrence Hardiman and Patricia Quinn. Terrence was a very gentle,
un-assuming man who was a delight to meet, chatting about Who and ‘The Demon
Headmaster’. Patricia was obviously more us to attending events and was very
confident, talking to me bizarrely about Ken Dodd! After a very quick trip to
get two autographs, we wondered around, looking at merchandise. I also caught
up with Brigitte Millar who I’d met at Westminster (remember that one) a few
weeks before which was lovely. After that, we headed home and I did more work
(yay), before getting on a train back to Cardiff.
I believe dear reader that the next few
weeks will be rather quiet so I apologise in advance.
