Peter Miles

I'm not sure quite what to say about the last three weeks, they are three weeks that I thought I'd not experience for a long time. Sadly. three weeks ago, my dear friend, Peter passed away. Below is what I put on Facebook at the time as I feel it best sums up what I want to say.

It is with great sadness that I inform you that my dear friend Peter Miles passed away peaceful at home, last week at the age of 89. I would often stay with him and will forever remember our long lunches, talking about his work, or regaling each other with stories, or shows we’d seen and all the wonderful jazz gigs we went to, be that when he performed or as an audience member. I first met Peter as a fan but feel privileged to have got to know Peter as a dear friend.

I shall miss his wonderful sense of humour and his sharp wit, he was a very special man who seemed to know everybody. I know he will never be forgotten through his acting and jazz work. I shall miss our weekly phone calls talking about anything and everything. Each week’s phone call would take such an odd path, but was always entertainment, and charming. I would always have to check when ‘The Voice’ of ‘The X Factor’ was on, as I couldn’t disturb those. As I would always finish the conversation, bye for now Peter, look after yourself until next week Peter.

The last three weeks have been a blur trying to come to terms with Peter's passing and helping with arrangements for the funeral. Perhaps at a later date I might be able to write a little more but it’s still too soon for that. What has been incredible is the outpouring of love for Peter which has been truly incredible and he deserved it, he was a very talented and special man.

Since the terrible news I have done a few other bits but the focus has been on Peter's sad passing. I did meet with his niece last Saturday, having spoken on the phone, it was a lovely chance for us to meet and share a few stories.

Rest in peace Peter, the world has lost a very special man.
