Week one of ‘Dying for It’
This week marked the first week back at
college (already, really?) working on my next show ‘Dying For it’ set in 19th
century Russia. As ever we started with a read-through (funny how that always
happens, almost like there is system for these things) and it seems like it is
going to be a very funny play (it is a farce, so I’d expect it to be). The rest
of my week has been spent trying to make a start on the extensive props list
which seems to pretty much cover all the complicated things that you could
think of (I do like a challenge).
Saturday saw me and the team wandering
around markets for various props, to a surprising amount of success. Sunday
marked my first trip to Bristol for the year to see ‘The Snow Queen’ at the
Bristol Old Vic. As well as seeing the show it was a lovely opportunity to
catch-up with Dee. As luck would have it we met as I got off the train as she
had popped to Cardiff that morning by chance and unbeknownst to us we had been
on the same train. As a result I had a lovely guided tour of Bristol before
wandering across to the Old Vic. You may remember avid readers (seriously find
something else to do) that I saw a version of this before Christmas at the New
Vic. This was a very different production set in a more modern world using the story
as a foundation and building upon it with rather broad strokes, but good fun
none the less; another fantastic feel good family show. It was lovely to be
able to catch-up with Dee, but before long it was time to wander back to
Cardiff as ever.
