A final week in Cardiff (for 2016)

With a day off on Sunday, we finally cleared the Caird of anything to do with 'Blindsided' and by the end of the day all trace of the show was gone. That evening I saw a screening of a Welsh series called 'Hinterland' (everyone bar me seems to have at least heard of it, even in England). Unbeknownst to me, it was the series finale and the last ever episode, oh and in Welsh. Despite having to follow the subtitles I really enjoyed it (it was like a welsh Vera). The screening was followed by a Q&A with the two producers, which was interesting, as the series was internationally funded and distributed.

Tuesday was rather slow, nothing to report. Wednesday was again a little slow, but that evening I wandered off to Chapter again for a screening of 'The Real Midwives', a documentary looking at the reality behind 'Call the Midwives'. I believe it will be on around Christmas time and is fascinating, as it follows Stephen McGann as he explored both the history of midwifery and the NHS, as well as looking at his own sorry, being born in Liverpool. The screening was followed by a Q&A (surprise, surprise - no sign of Cilla sadly), with Stephen McGann (a fascinating chap), the first baby to be born under the NHS (who is local it transpired) and a disability rights campaigner and Thalidomide survivor, who's name I can't remember to my shame. The three guests made for a fascinating post-screening discussion.

Thursday was spent traveling back up north, but before that I had a lovely catch-up with Dee (our pre-Christmas drink as she put it, which was more tea and cake than anything). As ever, it was lovely to catch-up with her, ahead of what sounds like a busy Christmas for her.

For a change I did something on Sunday this week (I know, who's have thought it dear reader, that never happens). We went to see 'Sweet Charity' at the Exchange. As seems to be the case these days, I went knowing nothing about what I was to expect. Whilst I enjoyed the show, there was nothing that particularly grabbed me. It was a very well put together show with some good performances, but just wasn't for me.

At long last (I've faffed around before posting this entry in case you hadn't guessed dear reader), that's been my final week for the year in Cardiff.
