Hot cross buns and Cybermen

Following the excitement of ‘Narrative’ and going home, this week has been the first week of lectures. However, most of the week has been spent playing with expanding foam and latex, as we were taught how to cast props and paint them.
Our combined prop making efforts.
Having not done anything remotely artistic since last June it was nice to spend the week painting and being a little creative again. As a group we cast and made all sorts from spearheads, to cannons, but predominantly an awful lot of baked goods (I made a hot cross bun, how exciting!). Whilst some of the science behind what we were doing may have gone over my head it was fun never the less. However, the fun didn’t last, as we were given our first project on Friday, as we returned to ‘classroom’ lectures.
Asides from props, we (BA1 Stage Managers) went bowling (I wasn’t very good at all). Cait and I went to see the Dad’s Army film on Monday, which was funny and very faithful to the series, but wasn’t quite the same somehow, but good none the less.
As ever, Saturday saw me wandering off to London for my first convention of the year. This week’s was a Cybermen themed Fantom Films event. As ever a great group of guest, but I was particularly pleased to meet Patricia Maynard and Velile Tshabalala. Surprisingly one of the guests happens to lecture at college semi-regularly, as he is now an opera director, and asked me to say hello to our principal (that could be a strange conversation with her!). Sadly it was soon time to return to Cardiff.
