When in Frome

Once again, I seem to be rather behind with my entries (I do sometimes wonder who reads this), however a weekend away in Frome was very relaxed way to spend a few days.

After a leisurely start, Kit and I headed off to Frome with no real knowledge of what to expect. We spent much of the day pottering around the various vintage or charity shops and generally exploring really enjoying a very good fish and chips. Frome seemed to be a very sleepy, but quaint village (and steep), certainly worth a potter around. From there we wandered across to Trowbridge. After checking into our hotel we enjoyed another meal out (a little more than fish and chips), before at long last going to see ‘Yesterday’. We’d both hard a lot of good things about it and it really is/was a good film. With all the bio-pics being done at the moment it was great to enjoy a film about The Beatles, without it being about them, as it was done in a very clever way and also wasn’t really about the music. It was also nice to see Cardiff stadium pop up, having heard about that last year.

Following a relaxed day on the Saturday, Sunday was much the same. We headed back to Frome for a tiny little event at the local college. Whilst it was only supposed to be a quick pop in to meet three people, it became a good few hours but it didn’t feel like that (well, Kit might disagree with me). Amongst these three, was an actor by the name of Oliver Smith who was the main draw for me, and he did not disappoint, he was nothing but delightful warm and chatty. It was also lovely to catchup with an old friend, Peter Roy, having not seen him for a while.

Frome there (see what I did there) Kit wanted to visit Wookey Hole having never been so we wandered across. Despite it being wet, underground wasn’t a problem and I think she really enjoyed it, I certainly enjoyed going back and actually listening to the tour this time. With it being wet outside we did most of the other attractions before headed back, via Bristol to see Kit’s step-sister.

It was a weekend that I hadn’t really got a clue what we would do for a change and it turned out to be great.
